Overview
This guide explains how to connect to and operate your ASIAIR device remotely using the WireGuard VPN connection provided by Starfront Observatories. If you've previously used your ASIAIR locally, you'll find this process straightforward.

Prerequisites
- ASIAIR device — ASIAIR or ASIAIR Mini

Network connection:
- ASIAIR: Ethernet cable
- ASIAIR Mini: Wi-Fi
- WireGuard Client — a free app installed on your computer or mobile device
- Static IP address — provided by Starfront Observatories after installation
What Starfront Sets Up for You
Starfront staff handle the installation and network configuration of your ASIAIR equipment. Once setup is complete, you will receive an email containing:
- Your WireGuard configuration file
- Your ASIAIR's static IP address
- Any additional connection details
Keep this email — it contains everything you need for remote access.
Step 1 – Connect Your ASIAIR to the Network
ASIAIR (Ethernet)
- Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to your ASIAIR and the other end to your router
- Power on your ASIAIR
ASIAIR Mini (Wi-Fi)
- Power on your ASIAIR Mini
- Open the ASIAIR app on your phone and follow the in-app steps to connect to your Wi-Fi network
Step 2 – Set Up WireGuard
- Locate the WireGuard configuration file from your Starfront setup email
- Download and install the WireGuard app on your computer or mobile device
- Open the WireGuard app and import the configuration file
Step 3 – Connect to Your ASIAIR
- Open the WireGuard app and activate your Starfront VPN tunnel
- Once connected, open the ASIAIR app
- Enter the static IP address provided in your Starfront setup email
- You can now control your ASIAIR remotely
Next Steps – Transfer Your Files
Once connected to your ASIAIR via WireGuard, you can mount its internal storage and download your observation files (FITS images) directly to your computer:
- Transfer Files from Your Seestar or ASIAIR (Mac) — Mount your ASIAIR's internal storage as a network drive on macOS and copy your FITS files to your Mac using Finder.
- Transfer Files from Your ASIAIR (Windows) — Map your ASIAIR's internal storage as a network drive on Windows and transfer your observation files to your PC using File Explorer.
- Transfer Files from Your Seestar (Windows) — Map your Seestar's internal storage as a network drive on Windows and transfer your observation files to your PC using File Explorer.
Troubleshooting
Can't Connect to ASIAIR
- Confirm WireGuard is connected (look for the active tunnel indicator in the app)
- Double-check that you entered the correct static IP address
- Verify your ASIAIR is powered on and connected to the network
ASIAIR App Not Responding
- Close and reopen the ASIAIR app
- Check for available updates for the ASIAIR app or device firmware
Security
- Keep the WireGuard app updated to receive the latest security patches
- Do not share your static IP address or WireGuard configuration file with anyone
